The students like to discuss and debate everything except Marxism, why? Two reasons underlie it. The first reason is that what is propagated in our society in the name of Marxism is only spurious Marxism. Therefore, the activities of such organizations whose Marxism is the Marxism from which the revolutionary kernel is removed, degenerated the reputation of Marxism among the students. And they came at a conclusion that Marxism is a dogma. The second reason is that the students are trained to show a passive attitude towards social problems. Why are they so uninterested in social problems? Because careerism is inculcated them. In each period, past or present the system of education has a particular aim. The significance of such aims is determined by the nature of the class or classes in power. Therefore, the system of education is bound to make up a mental condition among the students conducive to keep this moribund society intact as well as to produce wage-slaves to replenish the scarcity suffered by the organs of the society. No matter whether you accept or reject it, it is the reality that stands independently and outside your will.
What is Marxism? Marxism sees things and objects around us as it is, not adding additionally or subtracting from it anything. That is why it is known that the theory of Marxism is materialistic. Its method of analysis is dialectic. Marxism discards both Idealism and Metaphysics. The history of philosophy is the history of struggle between Materialism and Idealism. They are in opposition. The reconciliation between them is impossible.
Materialism considers matter or the objective world as primary, whereas Idealism considers mind or thought or soul as primary. This dispute between them is the subject matter of philosophy. As in the case of materialism, idealism is subject to divisions. Mechanical Materialism, Metaphysical Materialism and Dialectical Materialism are the main three divisions of Materialism. Idealism can be divide into two namely, Subjective Idealism and Objective Idealism. Mechanical and Metaphysical Materialism are the main weapons in the service of Bourgeoisie. Dialectical Materialism is the weapon in the service of working class. Fundamentally, Idealism negates the independent existence of matter. Objective Idealism was propounded by Hegel. According to him the objective world is created by an ‘Absolute Idea’, which is distinct from human consciousness and independent of it. The concept of Absolute Idea identifies with the concept of God. The Subjective Idealism was propounded by Anglican bishop Berkeley. Subjective Idealism asserts that the material world is the sum total of our sensations, thoughts.
Marxism views that each thing in the material world is subjected to uninterrupted change. Things are viewed in their motion, in their development. Therefore, the development of each thing is a common phenomenon. According to Marxism development is dialectical, not metaphysical. Development is a process by which the opposites in a unity are interchanged. When the opposites in a thing changed its position, the thing as a whole is changed qualitatively. A change in quality produces a new thing, which is entirely different from the old. Metaphysics discards the development as the struggle of opposites. It views the changing process as one-sidedly.
Marxism views the nature and human society as material entities prone to the uninterrupted changes. Therefore, Dialectical Materialism is the philosophy of Marxism. Marxism is the system of Marx’s thoughts and teachings. Marxism is created by the two great scholars and revolutionaries, Marx and Engels. Both were German natives. They are historical personalities because their development as philosophers and revolutionaries was caused by the then existing circumstances in Europe. Due to the reason of industrial revolution a strong working class was emerged in England. They had gained vast experiences through Chartist movement. Marx and Engels were the first persons who realized the historical importance of working class. The industrial revolution did not mitigate the misery of workers but intensified it. When the plight of workers became aggravated somebody came for the rescue of workers with their own solutions and theories. That is how the Utopian socialism emerged. Robert Owen, Saint Simon and Fourier were the founders of Utopian socialism. Though they failed to find out the real cause of the sufferings of the workers, their attempt to deal with the problems was a great movement forward. The activities of Young Hegelians in Germany paved the way for a leap in philosophy. The contributions of Adam Smith and David Ricardo in the sphere of Economics were another source for the emergence of Marxism. These were the historical conditions that paved the way for Marxism to be emerged out.
Marxism is not a dogma. It is a guide to action, because it is a science. No other philosophy except Marxism absorbs vital energy from science. The new developments in natural sciences enrich Marxism. Birth, development and death are the common features of every object in the material world. Therefore, Marxism is not an exception to this general principle. The fundamentals of Marxism will be strengthened and developed. Lenin’s contribution to the treasury of Marxism developed Marxism into Marxism-Leninism. Stalin and Mao enriched Marxism-Leninism through their revolutionary activities.
Marx changed history into a science. Before Marx, History was the narration of adventuristic deeds of rulers. The statement of Marx: “The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles” is foundation stone of Historical Materialism. The theory of surplus value proved that the wealth accumulated in the hands of capitalists is really created by the workers. They are the real owners of such wealth. Without acquiring the real knowledge of Marxian economy, you cannot build up a new society by revolution overthrow of the existing moribund society. In the wake of the publication of ‘Das Capital’, the economy of Adam Smith and Ricardo became outdated. Marxism publicly announces its solidarity with the working class. Since Marxism cannot be defeated by the enemies outside it, they entered the camp of Marxism in order to defeat it. They are the revisionists and opportunists. They are the real inside enemies of Marxism. In order to defeat the imperialism and capitalism, the archenemies of Marxism we have to fight and defeat the revisionists and opportunists firstly. A Communist Party may become a revisionist party when its leadership is usurped by revisionist clique. Gradually it becomes a counter-revolutionary party. At the moment a party is formed; if it follows revisionist and opportunist policies it is a Social Democratic Party. What happened in USSR (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics) and China was that the leadership of both CPSU (Communist Party of Soviet Union) and CPC (Communist Party of China) was usurped by revisionist cliques who started counter-revolution resulting at the demolition of USSR and Socialist China particularly and Socialist Camp generally. However, the real Marxist will win ultimately. Marxism is invincible because it is true.
